Eredivisie weekend round up: Derby glory for Cambuur and Go Ahead, PSV unstoppable

eredivisie premier league footballCambuur and Go Ahead celebrate famous top flight derby victories. Vitesse profit as Feyenoord, AZ, PEC, Heerenveen and Twente all taste defeat. Heracles, ADO and Utrecht claim three crucial points while Dordrecht and NAC lose and remain seemingly doomed. And leaders PSV win for the 20th time, writes Neil Adderley.

AZ Alkmaar 2 – 4 PSV Eindhoven: Luuk de Jong hat-trick settles thriller in Alkmaar

Runaway leaders PSV continued their unstoppable form as a Luuk de Jong treble, and a Georginio Wijnaldum strike, proved too much for a battling AZ.

For the second consecutive week AZ found themselves 2-0 down, and despite drawing level through goals from Markus Henriksen and Robert Muhren, another comeback victory was beyond John van den Brom’s side.

The home supporters had barely finished celebrating Muhren’s equaliser when Wijnaldum latched on to a Jetro Willem’s cross to restore PSV’s lead.

Moments later, after good work from PSV winger Luciano Narsingh, de Jong finally settled the contest as he claimed his third and the leaders fourth goal.

Heracles Almelo 2 – 0 Feyenoord: First win in six as Heracles shock Feyenoord

Late goals in each half from Bryan Linssen and Thomas Bruns gave struggling Heracles a deserved win over a lackluster Feyenoord.

Heracles, who more than held their own in a scrappy first half, finally broke the deadlock when Linssen profited from a Terence Kongolo slice to send a fine volley beyond Kenneth Vermeer in the visitors goal.

Feyenoord boss Fred Rutten shuffled his pack by bringing on midfielder Tonny Vilhena for defender Sven van Beek, however, Heracles continued to frustrate the Rotterdammers.

And on 85 minutes Thomas Bruns, meeting a precise Linssen cross, eventually sealed three priceless points in Heracles’ fight against relegation.

Excelsior 1 – 1 FC Groningen: Groningen escape with a point from Rotterdam

Albert Rusnak’s sublime volley ensured the spoils were shared but it was Excesior who were left ruing a host of missed chances.

The home side dominated this KNVB Cup semi-final dress rehearsal and took a deserved lead when Daan Bovenberg forced home a far post corner on 46 minutes.

Groningen finally responded as Brazilian defender Eric Botteghin broke from the back before finding the onrushing Rusnak.

The former Manchester City midfielder connected perfectly with the cross to smash a volley past Coutinho in the Excelsior goal.

The home team pushed for a winner but were twice left cursing their luck as substitute Ninos Gouriye struck both posts.

The unfortunate Gouriye’s day would quickly go from bad to worse as the forward was forced to leave the field of play with a hamstring injury.

Vitesse Arnhem 2 – 0 Willem II: Vitesse continue steady climb

Goals either side of the break from Zakaria Labyad, and Chelsea loanee Bertrand Traore, ensured a fourth consecutive victory for a resurgent Vitesse.

It was a comfortable evening’s work for a dominant Vitesse, with Labyad first to react on 28 minutes, after Davy Propper saw his fierce shot come back off the upright.

Peter Bosz’ side, who had plummeted the division after suffering an horrendous run of form, made the game safe shortly after halftime.

The impressive Bertrand Traore, back from international duty in the African cup of nations, bagged his sixth goal of the season with a stunning curled effort from the edge of the box.

The win moves Vitesse above FC Twente into seventh, while promoted Willem II remain in a very respectable tenth place.

ADO Den Haag 3 – 2 NAC Breda: Kramer steals De Zeeuw’s thunder in relegation six pointer

Just as it seemed ex-Dutch international Demy De Zeeuw was writing his own headlines, up popped ADO striker Michiel Kramer to put an end to the former Ajax midfielder’s fairytale Eredivisie return.

De Zeuuw, who had been without a club and had taken to social media to advertise his availability, this week signed a deal with NAC until the end of the season.

And the former World Cup semi-finalist made an instant impact for his new employers by twice giving Robert Maaskant’s side the lead at the Kyocera Stadion.

However, NAC were twice unable to hold the advantage as firstly, ADO top scorer Kramer dinked the ball over keeper Jelle ten Rouwelaar.

Xander Houtkoop then pounced on a ten Rouwelaar mistake to bring the scores level on 76 minutes.

And, with just four minutes left on the clock, Kramer broke NAC Breda hearts with a stunning near post header.

ADO move nine points clear of NAC, whose 14th loss of a miserable season leaves them cut adrift in the Eredivisie basement.

Cambuur Leeuwarden 2 – 1 Heerenveen: Cambuur claim Frisian derby bragging rights

All three goals were scored within an explosive first eight minutes as Cambuur eventually held on against fierce rivals Heerenveen.

Henk de Jong’s Cambuur burst out of the traps to take a lead within the first minute of a pulsating derby.

Winger Mikhael Rosheuvel immediately went at the Heerenveen defence and his pulled back cross was superbly volleyed into the net by Sander van de Streek.

Heerenveen hit back on six minutes when Luciano Slagveer stroked home to level the score, after being found in the box by Mark Uth.

The away supporters joy was very short lived however, as Cambuur regained the lead straight from the kick off.

And it was new Cambuur hero Sander van de Streek who hit his second goal with a smart low drive past Heerenveen keeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt.

After the blistering opening exchanges, chances were at a premium for both sides, until Furdjel Narsingh was sent clear on the hour mark.

Unfortunately for the home supporters nerves, the Cambuur winger beat the onrushing Nordfeldt but watched his effort drift agonisingly wide.

Heerenveen pushed for an equaliser, but once Younes Namli saw his shot cleared from the line, Cambuur were able to hold on for a famous derby victory.

FC Utrecht 6 – 1 FC Dordrecht: Four goal Haller destroys Dordrecht

A Sebastian Haller four goal haul gave Utrecht a much needed first win in 2015.

The 20-year-old Auxerre loanee, who was yet to get off the mark at the Galgenwaard, quickly made up for lost time by firing home on 16 minutes from a Edouard Duplan pass.

Haller bagged his second on 40 minutes before going on to complete his hat-trick shortly after half-time from the penalty spot.

Josimer Lima pulled one back for the visitors, after Utrecht captain Willem Janssen saw red, but any hope of a Dordrecht comeback faded when Lima was shown a second yellow card and given his marching orders.

Sebastian Heller scored his and Utrecht’s fourth in a hectic last ten minutes that saw both Christian Kum and Jeff Hardeveld join Heller on the scoresheet.

Dordrecht’s miserable afternoon was complete when they were reduced to nine men after Marvin Peersman, who had earlier conceded a penalty, was shown a straight red card in injury time.

PEC Zwolle 0 – 1 Go Ahead Eagles: Go Ahead surprise PEC in IJssel derby

PEC Zwolle missed the opportunity to leapfrog Feyenoord into third place in the table as a Jeffrey Rijsdijk strike gave Go Ahead Eagles all three points in the IJssel derby.

Zwolle began sloppily and it was no surprise when Rijsdijk gave the visitors a deserved lead from a Deniz Turuc cross.

Ron Jans’ side finally clicked into gear but not until being reduced to ten men. Forward Stef Nijland was harshly shown red for a coming together with Eagles defender Jop van der Linden. Jans would himself see red as frustrations boiled over both on and off the pitch.

PEC threw everything in search for an equaliser at Go Ahead but could find no way past a resilient Eagles defence. And when Mustafa Saymak’s effort rattled the crossbar, the Eagles held on to a crucial derby victory.

Ajax 4 – 2 FC Twente: Kishna at the double for Ajax

Two second half goals from Ricardo Kishna gave Ajax a much needed boost going into this week’s Europa League clash with Legia Warsaw.

However, Twente will be disappointed to have left Amsterdam empty handed.

The visitors were ahead after just six minutes when the diminutive Jesus Corona rose highest before heading beyond keeper Jasper Cillessen.

Ajax responded resolutely and were themselves in front within ten minutes of Twente’s opener.

Defender Nick Viergever hammered home to level the scores before Ajax debutant Riechedly Bazoer opened his Eredivisie account with a fine volley past the helpless Sonny Stevens.

Twente were far from beaten and when Cillessen blocked a Luc Castaignos effort, Hakim Ziyech was first to react before firing home the rebound.

Both teams seemed capable of adding to the scoreline but it was young Ajax winger Ricardo Kishna who would steal-the-show in a second half masterclass.

When Anwar El Ghazi, another Ajax academy protege, burst down the right flank, Kishna matched his run before smashing El Ghazi’s cross into the top corner of Stevens’ net.

Kishna then settled the match on 75 minutes, finishing neatly after latching on to substitute Arkaduisz Milik’s delightful touch on the edge of the penalty area.

The win leaves Ajax trailing leaders PSV by twelve points while Twente slip to a disappointing eighth in the Eredivisie.
