Is this summer? This August is one of the coldest since 1980

This August is the second coldest in 34 years with an average afternoon temperature of 17 Celsius at the De Bilt weather station.

In the average year, the temperature is around 22 Celsius in mid August, according to forecasting bureau Weerplaza.

The coldest August day since 1980 was August 11, 2006 when the temperature did not rise about 16 Celsius. The absolute record dates back to 1920 and 1924 when the maximum temperature was 14 degrees.

Next week, however, there are signs of change and it is likely to be a little warmer with more sunshine, both Weerplaza and the KNMI say.
