Vocational education to get extra money

Vocational education will receive an extra €75m from next year, education minister Jet Bussemaker said on Monday.

Bussemaker told the Dutch media she wants more youngsters to choose a vocational college. ‘This is an extra stimulus for schools to offer vocational courses in subjects demanded by the jobs market,’ she said.

The extra money will allow vocational training colleges (mbo) to develop their technical training, the minister said.

The extra money comes after an independent committee advised Bussemaker to increase mbo colleges’ budgets because vocational training is under-appreciated.
