Foreign online betting firms ignore warning

Foreign online betting firms continue to target Dutch punters despite a warning from the Dutch gambling authority, the Volkskrant reports on Friday.

Earlier this week, the firms were warned not to target the Netherlands during the World Cup and in the run-up to the Tour de France.

If they continued to do so, they risked fines and being excluded when licences are awarded for online betting in the future.

However, dozens of Dutch websites are still carrying adverts for online betting firms such as Unibet and William Hill, the Volkskrant says.

The Dutch government currently has a monopoly on gambling and online betting is banned, although changes in the law are expected next year.
