Rotterdam port opposes offshore wind farms

Cabinet plans to set up an offshore wind farm close to Rotterdam port will present a danger to shipping and should not be approved, according to a secret report by the port authority.

The location close to the Maasvlakte is one of the busiest shipping lanes in Europe, Nos television quotes the confidential report as saying.

Many local coastal communities have protested at plans to build several massive wind farms within the 12 mile zone, arguing they will damage tourism and present a danger to wildlife.
