Student loses court internship because of ‘criminal’ brother

A vocational college student in Amsterdam is going to court today in an effort to get back her internship at Amsterdam district court, the Parool reports.

The young woman’s work experience position was terminated on February 12 after the court discovered her brother is one of the 600 young criminals being closely monitored by city officials. The brother was due to appear in court that day.

The intern said she was not aware her brother had been due in court or that he is included in the top 600 list. In addition, the court had not asked her about criminal records during her interview for the job, she told reporters.

The woman was also given a VOG – the official certificate of good behaviour required to do jobs in sensitive positions.

Her lawyer is demanding the court in Amsterdam reinstate the woman so she can complete the six month traineeship and finish her education. The case is being heard in The Hague.
