PVV votes against ending European parliament Strasburg trips

The four Dutch European parliamentarians for the anti-immigration PVV voted against a motion to stop the European parliament shifting between Brussels and Strasburg every month.

MEPs voted on Tuesday in favour of a motion allowing the parliament itself to decide where to meet, which will effectively end the Strasburg trips.

The four PVV MEPs were among the 141 who voted against the proposal. The PVV delegation told the Volkskrant it is against the proposal because it did not mention Brussels.

This means the parliament could meet in ‘Ankara, Vienna or Warsaw’, and the PVV does not want to give the parliament any new powers, MEP Auke Zijlstra said.

The Volkskrant says the vote is unlikely to have any effect because the split location is enshrined in European treaties which would need to be amended.
