Unpaid diplomatic traffic fines reach €700,000

Foreign diplomats in the Netherlands have not paid parking and other traffic fines amounting to almost €700,000 over the past four years, according to justice ministry figures.

Russian diplomats are the worst offenders, but China, UAE, Iran, Egypt, Indonesia, Morocco, Bosnia Herzegovina, Ghana and Malaysia also have a large number of unpaid fines.

Diplomatic missions are reminded every three months to pay the fines ‘with varying success’, Opstelten said.
