Shimon Peres visits Anne Frank House

Israeli president Shimon Peres made a private visit to the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam on Sunday.

The 90-year-old Peres is on a three-day official visit to the Netherlands but made time in his busy schedule to visit the house where the young Jewish girl hid during World War II.

The president stayed for three-quarters of an hour and told the assembled press that Anne’s voice ‘must be heard around the world, certainly in these troubled times’.

On Monday, Peres will visit the Peace Palace in The Hague, which houses the International Court of Justice. On Tuesday, he has meetings with king William-Alexander and prime minister Mark Rutte.
