Sales of supermarket own label products rise 5%

Wednesday 20 February 2013

Campina dairy products are the most popular A brand items in Dutch supermarkets followed by Marlboro cigarettes and Douwe Egberts coffee, according to market research group SymphonyIRI.

The company draws up an annual list of the Netherlands' leading brands. Last year the sale of branded goods in the Netherlands rose 1.5%, but supermarket own brands rose almost 5%.

'There is a clear trend,' researcher Ronald Laureijsen told Nos television. 'If we look at the period 2003 to 2012, own brands rose 7% and A brands a little over 1%.'

The greatest growth last year was in organic and frozen food, Laureijsen said.

Top 10 A brands
1 Campina (dairy)
2 Marlboro
3 Douwe Egberts (coffee)
4 Coca Cola
5 Heineken
6 Unox (soup, smoked sausage)
7 Dr Oetker (frozen pizza, bakery)
8 Frische Vlag (dairy)
9 Pall Mall (tobacco)
10 Becel (spreads)

I only use one out of that list, Pall Mall as there are still plenty of packs from the old stock rip-off price at Dekamaakt.

Lol, one of my 'reCAPTCHA' words was 'screwed', kind of fitting! :P

Own label? Discounted genuine ''Romanian horse meat! minus the usual 150% mark up. Bargain! empty shelves, mad rush, etc, trolly fighting in the isles with, exuberant bargain hunting Cloggies.........what bliss.

My god, that's a depressing list. Just goes to show the complete lack of excitement in Dutch food buying habits. More pleasure is derived in the Netherlands during the excreting of bodily waste than is had during the consumption of the food.
