Weather bureau reconsiders warning system

The KNMI weather bureau is to amend the criteria it uses for weather warnings following criticism that no warning was given about Tuesday morning’s snow.

The ensuing traffic chaos on the roads led to the longest jams on record in the morning rush hour.
The KNMI issued a code yellow warning on Tuesday but in retrospect this could have been orange, a spokesman told Nos television.
In the past, the organisation has also been criticised for issuing weather warnings which have proved to be a false alarm.
Any change will be carried out following consultation with the ANWB motoring organisation and transport ministry officials, Nos said.
