‘Price of a three-course meal dropped 15% last year’

Cafes and restaurants are taking note of consumers’ shrinking spending power and cut the average price of a three-course meal by some 15% last year, according to food research institute FSIN.

In 2012, people eating in restaurants paid an average €27.50 for a three-course evening meal, the FSIN is quoted as saying by news agency ANP.
Total spending on food and drink rose marginally in 2012, with supermarkets benefiting most. Their turnover rose 1.8%. Spending on food in restaurants and bars went down 1.1%, which is less than had been forecast, the FSIN said.
