Northern newspaper websites move behind pay wall

More Dutch newspapers are moving their websites behind pay walls, as owners struggle to find new business models because of falling print suscriptions.

The websites of northern regional Dutch newspapers will partly disappear behind a pay wall this spring, the Leewarder Courant reports on Monday.
Newspapers run by the Boom press group will shift at the end of this month, followed by the NDC group in a few weeks. The NDC group includes the Dagblad van het Noorden and the Leeuwarder Courant.
National papers Nederlands Dagblad and the Financieele Dagblad have been behind a pay wall for some time.
The Volkskrant is also currently developing a new site which will include paid-for items.
