Snow may fall this evening, but winter will really hit on Friday

Wednesday 05 December 2012

While there may be some snow on Wednesday evening, weather forecasters say winter will start in earnest on Friday, with up to 10 cm of snow and frost at night.

The KNMI, Meteoconsult and Weerplaza.nl are all forecasting heavy snow on Friday, which, they say, may be coupled with strong winds. And with temperatures dropping to as low as -10 Celsius on Saturday night, winter will have truly arrived, Weerplaza's forecaster said.

Both Meteoconsult and Weerplaza.nl warn of 'extreme conditions' on Friday, especially on the roads during rush hour. It will remain below freezing on Saturday at least, with the sun shining some of the time.

Nevertheless, it will remain very cold with the chance of more snow well into next week.

I love snow...but snow in a flat country is as pointless as a fridge with no food in it....

Damn I've already had my twitter and facebook news feeds filled with reports that "It's snowing" from my Scottish friends, now my Dutch ones will be at it :)

10 cm is just a dusting where I live in Canada. Enjoy the snow. Always make December a little more magical.

I love snow, but I hate winters in NL. I live in an ex-rental flat in a supposedly "luxury" apartment building which has central building heating. With all the radiators turned on we can get to 21 degrees (mostly only 19!), and they turn it off at midnight, even in mid winter. (it's not working at all during the summer months.) For such heating they charge us more than three thousand euros a year! It's extortionate.

(Sorry another post...) I also hate that there is an army of gardeners working in my neighbourhood constantly. In winter they are clearing the undergrowth, cutting down trees, renewing the grass, planting new things... while the pavements are completely covered in snow, and people can't walk on them! Make the gardeners to do the snow work and make it easier for us to walk!

I love the snow but in this country they cut the trains at the first flake, so I'm kind of anxious...

Oh dear, yet another excuse for train delays and cancellations.
