One in five imported fireworks are ‘too dangerous’ to sell

Almost one in five fireworks imported into the Netherlands for sale to the general public failed to meet safety standards, according to a report by government inspectors.

The main problems inspectors identified are inflammable packing, fireworks which fall over easily and fireworks which go off too quickly, broadcaster RTL reported.
This year 18% of imported fireworks were rejected on safety grounds, down from 21% last year and in 2010. Over the past eight years, on average one in four fireworks is considered too dangerous to sell.
The importers of the fireworks, many of which come from Poland and the Czech Republic, face a fine.
