New climate change plans to be published in the spring

Economic affairs minister Henk Kamp will brief parliament in the spring on his plans to reach the government’s climate targets, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Thursday.

Despite the economic downturn, the Netherlands will have to make progress on greening its energy sector in 2013, and on breathing new life into emissions trading, the paper says.
The cabinet’s target is to ensure 16% of energy production is from sustainable sources by 2020 and €3.8bn in subsidies has been allocated to help achieve this.
The previous two governments had taken a slower approach to shifting to green energy in order to profit from technological advances in other countries, the paper said.
