Top civil servant is most influential Dutch woman

Renée Jones-Bos, secretary general of the foreign affairs ministry, is the most influential woman in the Netherlands, according to the annual ranking drawn up by feminist magazine Opzij.

Jones-Bos, a former ambassador to Washington, is ‘key’ in making sure the Netherlands gets noticed abroad.
‘I am honoured to be chosen… but I am not powerful,’ Jones-Bos told the magazine. ‘Power is with the politicians. However, you do have influence in the way you talk to people and bring them in contact with each other.’
Last year’s winner was Angelien Kemna, investment chief at the giant civil service pension fund APG.
