KPN gets go-ahead to buy service providers

Wednesday 17 October 2012

Telecoms company KPN on Wednesday received the go-ahead from the competition authority (NMa) to take over four service providers from fibreglass company Reggeborgh.

KPN announced the takeover of Edutel, XMS, KickXL and Concepts ITC eleven months ago, with a view to expanding its offer on copper and fibreglass networks.

The NMa says there will still be sufficient competition in television, internet and telephony after the takeover. The fibreglass network provider, Reggifiber, will still have to allow other service providers on to their network.

Reggefiber is a joint venture between KPN and Reggeborgh with KPN holding a 41% interest. Talks are underway for KPN to increase its shareholding.
