Tank storage group Odfjell to cut Rotterdam workforce by 35%
Friday 21 September 2012
Tank storage group Odfjell, which has been under fire for its lax safety standards, is planning to cut its Rotterdam workforce by 35%, Nos television reports.
The 300-strong workforce stopped work on the news and held a meeting this afternoon in the staff canteen, the FNV general workers union Bondgenoten told the Nos.
Management had demanded secrecy on the job cuts and are now refusing to discuss redundancy terms, the union said.
Odfjell has been forced to suspend operations in Rotterdam since the end of July for breaking environmental and safety rules. Last week Shell cancelled its contract with the Norwegian company for failing to meet its obligations.
