Rotterdam court overturns KPN fine

A court in Rotterdam has overturned a €540,000 fine handed out to telecoms firm KPN by sector watchdog Opta, the NRC reports on Friday.

The former state-owned monopoly was fined by Opta in 2010 for giving unfair discounts to some business customers.
The orginal fine of €720,000 was earlier reduced on appeal, but KPN went to court again in an effort to have the guilty verdict overturned.
This time, the court ruled KPN had given some customers discounts which were too high, but others were given discounts which were too low. In addition, KPN had tried to rectify the mistakes, the court said.
