European cup preps: Oranje beats Slovakia 2-0

The Dutch national football team beat Slovakia 2-0 on Wednesday in the latest of their warm-up matches ahead of the European cup competition in June.

Coach Bert van Marwijk changed five positions in his starting line-up following Saturday’s defeat by Bulgaria, dropping Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Tim Krul, Jetro Willems, Rafael van der Vaart and Joris Mathijsen. Ibrahim Afellay and Arjen Robben were among their replacements.
Dutch pundits described the game as ‘average’ or ‘poor’ but welcomed the confidence-boosting victory after the Bulgaria and Bayern Munich losses. Oranje play their next warm-up match against Ireland on Saturday.
The Dutch group B campaign kicks off against Denmark on June 9, followed by Germany on June 13. The tournament runs from 8 June to 1 July.
