More drunken teens are hospitalised

The number of youngsters hospitalised because they had drunk so much alcohol they passed out rose 12% last year to 762, the Volkskrant reports on Wednesday.

Noord-Holland province topped the teen drunk league, with 251 cases. The average age of a teenage drunk was 15.3 years, down slightly on 2010. They were unconscious for nearly 3.5 hours on average.
‘The worst case was in Delft, involving a 10-year-old boy. We have never seen such a young victim,’ Delft doctor Nico van der Lely told the paper.
Research into teenage drunks shows one in five is in a pre-university stream at school. There is little difference between the number of boys and girls drinking themselves unconscious.
