Top Dutch model Doutzen Kroes has appealed to her 220,000 Twitter followers to donate money to ailing Dutch football club SC Veendam.

Kroes’ husband and dj Sunnery James played at the Groningen club as a junior player and the Victoria’s Secret model retweeted a message from her husband looking for cash.
James explained to local broadcaster RTV Noord that both he and Kroes are big football fans. ‘We think it important to make a contribution and to appeal to others to keep Veendam alive,’ he said.
The first division club was founded in 1894 and is one of the oldest in the Netherlands and almost went bankrupt in 2010.
