Opposition party D66 has urged prime minister Mark Rutte to come clean about any agreements he has made with the fundamentalist Christian party SGP.

Rutte attended Saturday’s gathering of the SGP youth wing and reportedly said he was pleased how trustworthy the party had proved to be because ‘a deal is a deal’.
D66 leader Alexander Pechtold said he wanted to know exactly what the prime minister means. ‘Is there an agreement with the SGP? If so, don’t be so furtive about it and make it public,’ Pechtold said.
The minority cabinet needs the support of the ultra conservative Christian grouping to ensure legislation gets majority support in the senate, or upper house of parliament.
The VVD earlier did a u-turn on plans to relax Sunday shopping laws to keep the SGP happy. The party, which does not believe women should have the right to vote, has two MPs and one senator.
