Strike at Nedcar over Mitsubishi pull-out

Workers at the Nedcar car-making plant in Born went on strike on Friday in protest at plans by Japanese car manufacturer Mitsubishi to pull out, Nos television reports.

The plant was closed for three days after Monday’s announcement, to give the 1,500 staff time to come to terms with the closure. Work should have restarted on Friday.
The unions want a proper campaign to find a new owner for the Limburg factory and a decent redundancy package for workers if closure is inevitable.
Rumours that BMW was interested in producing Minis in Born have been denied by the German firm.
Mitsubishi Motors is stopping all production in Europe next year, blaming the ‘difficult business climate’. Nedcar is the biggest car-making plant in the country and currently produces the Mitsubishi Colt.
