Green energy use rises

The use of green energy by households and industry rose by 22% in 2011, according to network manager Tennet. This equates to the energy needs of 1.5 million households.

According to Tennet, 60% of green energy comes from biomass and 40% from wind farms.
Because the demand for sustainable energy is bigger than its production in the Netherlands, an increasing amount is imported, much of it from Norwegian hydro-electric plants. This energy is transported through the undersea cable between the Netherlands and Norway.
