Fewer trams and buses in Rotterdam, The Hague

There will be fewer and less frequent bus and tram services in Rotterdam and The Hague from next week as government cuts begin to bite, the NRC said at the weekend.

The cuts follow the government’s decision to cut spending on public transport in The Hague, Rotterdam and Amsterdam by €120m – the amount ministers say would have been saved if the cities had put services out to tender.
In Rotterdam, 10 bus routes have been scrapped, jobs have been cut and the number of ticket sales points reduced, the NRC says. The spending cut in the port city amounts to €30m, with a further €20m on the cards.
In The Hague, services have been reduced by 15% across the board, generating savings of €7m. A further €38m still has to be cut from The Hague’s public transport budget.
Cuts are also scheduled in Amsterdam services but it is not clear when these will come into effect.
