Paedophile group will not face legal action, says minister

Justice minister Ivo Opstelten has no intention of using his special powers to force the public prosecution department to take legal action against pro-paedophile group Stichting Martijn, the NRC reports.

Opstelten told MPs during a debate on Tuesday night there is ‘no case’ to prosecute. ‘A criminal investigation means the foundation as a legal entity must be under suspicion,’ the minister said. If legal action was taken to disband the organisation there is a real chance it would fail, the minister said.
The organisation is kept under close scrutiny but there is no child pornography on the foundation’s website or links to sites carrying illegal material, the NRC says. Several of the foundations’ board do have criminal convictions for child sex offences.
However, MPs point out that under the EU’s Treaty of Lanzarote, such organisations can be made illegal if their leaders have been found guilty of child sex offences.
