Home owners taxes rise as house valuations fall

Most home owners will pay more in local authority taxes next year, even though the value of their property has fallen, according to research by home owners’ lobby group VEH.

Local taxes (ozb) are based on property valuations. On average, house prices have fallen by 3.4% over the year but local taxes have gone up an average 3.9%.
Water rates have also risen an average 4.3% but waste disposal charges have dropped slightly, on average, the survey of 114 local authority areas shows.
However, there are wide variations. The sharpest increase in ozb tax is in Noordoostpolder in Flevoland province where the rise is 42%, taking the average bill from €187 to €265.
