Gun licences withdrawn in wake of Alphen mall shooting

In total, 29 people have lost their gun licences in the aftermath of the Alphen aan den Rijn shopping centre shooting, Nos television said at the weekend.

All 70,000 licences were re-examined after the shooting, carried out by a young man who had a licence for five weapons despite a history of psychiatric problems.
Seven people lost their licences because of their mental health history during the rescreening process, Nos said.
Tristan van der Vlis went on his three-minute rampage in April this year, shooting dead six people and injuring 16 before turning a gun on himself.
The investigation into the shooting spree revealed that Van der Vlis was probably a paranoid schizophrenic who suffered repeated periods of depression. He also made at least two suicide attempts in 2008.
