First of the big health insurers keeps premium rise modest

Menzis, the first of the big health insurance companies to declare the cost of a basic health insurance package next year, is putting up its fees by €21 a year, taking the monthly premium to €106.50.

‘We will not play premium politics,’ Menzis chief executive Roger van Boxtel told reporters.
Menzis customers will, however, be faced with a €50 rise in the standard own risk, which will reach €220 next year.
The company says it is managing to keep premiums low by cutting its own spending by 20% over two years. This could lead to job losses, the AD reports.
In September, the government said it expected the cost of a basic package would rise by €11 a year.
