Patatje Oorlog wins best children’s film title at Cinekid

Patatje Oorlog (literally French Fries War) won the jury prize for best film at this year’s Cinekid children’s film festival.

The film, directed by Nicole van Kilsdonk, is an unusual and humorous story about a nine-year-old girl whose father goes to work as a doctor in a war zone.
The public’s prize went to Penny’s Shadow by Steven de Jong while Entre Lobos (Among Wolves) won the prize for best foreign children’s film.
Amsterdam-based Cinekid took place for the 25th time this year but there were also spin-off festivals in 30 other Dutch cities. Cinekid traditionally takes place during the autumn school holidays.
According to its director Sannette Naeye, the event, which attracted 55,000 visitors, is the biggest children’s media festival in the world.
