Defence ministry whistleblowers still face the sack

Several defence ministry workers who went public with claims about intimidation and theft at a marine unit may still lose their jobs despite ministerial assurances they are safe, the Volkskrant reports on Wednesday.

The men have been told that due to a reorganisation, they will not be able to return to their jobs at the prestigious CAMS Force Vision unit where software and sea defence systems are developed.
They have written to defence minister Hans Hillen, urging him to take action, the paper says, quoting defence sources.
A spokesman for the minister said he has now ordered a new inquiry into events at the base and the reorganisation has been halted.
That probe is separate from another wide-ranging investigation ordered by the minister into CAMS Force Vision earlier this year.
