Digital border controls lead to pre-arrival screening at Schiphol

An ‘advanced digital filter’ will allow border officials to screen all passengers arriving at Schiphol airport from outside the EU before they land, the Telegraaf reports on Wednesday.

The paper says some 20 international airlines have agreed to cooperate and make passenger details available for checking from the beginning of next year. The screening will only apply to flights from outside the EU.
This means international flights can be screened for undesirables by Dutch border police before they have even taken off, the paper says. People who are considered as posing a security risk or who have outstanding fines or a jail term can then be picked up on arrival.
The paper does not detail which airlines have agreed to cooperate or if this is part of a pan-European approach.
