The couple, aged 29 and 28,had found the advertisement for the baby, named Jayden, on the internet.
The court in Zwolle found the couple guilty of forging documents to have the baby officially registered as theirs and taking part in an illegal adoption.
They were not prosecuted for buying a baby because it is not illegal to do so in the Netherlands, the Volkskrant said in its report.
The baby was returned to Belgium and taken into care at the end of 2008.
