MPs oppose plan to fine teen drinkers

MPs from the coalition’s alliance partner PVV and the Labour party (PvdA) have come out against cabinet plans to fine under-16s caught with alcohol.

The cabinet wants to introduce the fines for young teens caught with alcohol in public places in an effort to reduce teenage drinking.
But the PvdA says efforts instead should be made to stop bars, supermarkets and online shops selling beer and wine to younger teenagers.
Without the support of the PvdA or the PVV it will be difficult for the cabinet to pass the legislation.
