Ter Horst gets tough with hbo colleges

The quality of hbo college courses must improve and there must be no more high salaries for hbo management or chicanery with degrees, Guusje ter Horst, head of the hbo college association, says in an interview with the Volkskrant.

Ter Horst wants an end to management bonuses from this year and to make salaries dependent on student numbers. No college director should earn more than €176,000.
To increase quality, Ter Horst wants 70% of students to get their bachelor degree within five years and for 75% of students to be satisfied with their courses, she told the paper.
She also wants the examining boards to be independent, with no college director allowed to participate. ‘A college director is judged on how many of his students get their degrees,’ she says.
Ter Horst will present her recommendations to the hbo conference later on Tuesday.
