Plans for supervising housing corporations dropped

Plans to set up an independent supervisory body to oversee housing corporations have been dropped, sources in The Hague told the Financieele Dagblad.

The idea for an independent supervisor was introduced by former housing minister Eberhard van der Laan in 2009 with the object of improving the management of the country’s 500 plus housing corporations.
Now home affairs minister Piet Hein Donner, who is responsible for housing, has decided to keep supervision of rent-controlled housing at his ministry.
The reason is that he is worried about the loss of responsibilities at his ministry, according to the sources quoted in the paper.
