New home completions fell by almost one third last year

Almost 56,000 new homes were completed in 2010, 32% down on the 2009 figure, the national statistics office CBS said on Tuesday.


The number of homes for rent was down 19%, while the number of owner-occupier properties fell 40%.
The number of building permits granted last year was down 16% on 2009 at 61,000.
The province of Utrecht bucked the trend. There 13% more building permits were granted.
By the end of last year, the Netherlands’ housing stock amounted to 7.2 million homes, the CBS said.
