Defence helicopters fight heath fires

The defence ministry sent two helicopters to help fire officials put out heath fires on the Drenthe Friesland border on Monday afternoon, news agency ANP reports.

Tens of hectares of heathland on the Fochteloerveen countryside are ablaze and firefighters out in force, ANP said.
A fire in national park Meinweg near Roermond, which was put out on Sunday flared up again on Monday morning but has since been extinguished, ANP says.
There have also been other smaller fires which have been put out successfully.
Large parts of the east of the country have been declared Code Red and Code Orange, meaning there is a serious risk of fire.
