Activists scale palace to protest at rare wood use

Seven activists from environmental campaign group Milieudefensie scaled the royal palace on the Dam in central Amsterdam on Monday morning in protest at the use of ‘wrong wood’.

The organisation claims seven out of 10 government building projects use wood from non-certified sources. Renovation work on the palace involves rare okoumé hard wood from West Africa, which is on a watchlist of threatened species.
Police did not intervene during the protest, news agency ANP said.
