The government´s alliance partner, the anti-Islam PVV, voted on Wednesday night against plans to send Dutch fighter jets and support staff to help monitor the UN´s weapons embargo on Libya.

The Socialist Party and pro-animal PvdD also voted against, bringing the total opposition to the plan to 41.
The Netherlands has agreed to send six F16 fighter jets and 200 members of the armed forces to help the UN´s efforts. They will not be involved in any bombing campaigns, ministers have said.
‘It would appear to be a very sensible approach. It is right that we are becoming involved like this,’ VVD MP Atzo Nicolaï said.
The PvdA’s defence spokesman Frans Timmermans said the party believed the Netherlands should contribute to efforts to ‘prevent the murder of the Libyan people,’ by colonel Gaddafi.
Democracy
During the debate MPs voted in favour of a D66 and PvdA motion calling on the Netherlands and Europe to work actively to support the development of democracy in the Persian Gulf region. Again, the PVV, SP and PvdD voted against.
MPs also agreed to help southern EU member states cope with the care of refugees from Libya, most of whom are foreign workers from Tunisia, Egypt and Asia and who want to return home. The PVV voted against.
