Minor parties agree senate alliance

New political party 50PLUS has agreed to work together with the regional party organisation in the new-look senate, scuppering the ruling coalition’s hopes of a majority, Elsevier reports on Tuesday.

50PLUS leader Jan Nagel has already said his party will only agree to support the government if it commits to increasing the state pension by €100 a year.
Provincial councillors will choose the 75 new members of the upper house on May 23. So far it appears the coalition and alliance partner PVV will control 36 or 37 seats.
