Home affairs minister opposes office to homes plan

Home affairs minister Piet Hein Donner does not support plans to stimulate developers to turn empty office blocks into housing, news agency ANP reports.

‘Old office blocks are usually in places where it is not attractive to live,’ Donner said during a debate on the issue. ‘As government, we should not be financing undesirable housing.’
A majority of MPs support the proposal to lower value added tax on such conversion projects from 19% to 6%.
Last year, some 14% of Dutch office space was empty.
