The amount of empty offices in the Netherlands will rise to 25% of total supply by 2015, according to calculations by ABN Amro economists, reported in the Financieele Dagblad.

The paper says the main reason for the rise is that an increasing number of workers are now home-based. Another reason is cuts in civil service numbers. The government currently owns or rents 21% of the country’s supply of offices, the paper says.
Some 14% of offices are currently vacant and the government is considering plans to turn some into housing for students and starters.
