The cabinet will not act on a parliamentary motion calling for a retroactive 100% tax on bonuses paid out by banks which have not repaid all their state aid, junior finance minister Frans Weekers said on Tuesday.

The motion is ‘disproportionate, legally impossible and I do not consider it to be desirable either,’ Weekers told television station RTLZ, as reported by ANP.
The motion was submitted by the anti-Islam PVV and won majority support in parliament. Finance minister Jan Kees de Jager said earlier the motion would conflict with the constitution and EU human rights policy.
Weekers said that while the cabinet did not intend to put the motion into practice, the government would act ‘in the spirit’ of the motion, without going into details.
