Economy more important than headscarves: D66 campaign leader

The economic situation facing the Netherlands is more important than debates about integration, Roger van Boxtel, leader of the D66 liberals campaign for the senate, said in an interview with the NRC.

Van Boxtel said he thinks it is ‘tragic’ that political debate focuses endlessly on multiculturalism and headscarves.
‘We are focused on 2,000 juvenile delinquents with a minority background but a billion Chinese are taking over the world,’ the paper quoted him as saying.
Instead, the country should be asking itself how it planned to ‘ensure a strong position for the Netherlands in Europe and in the world economy’, he said.
