A majority of MPs oppose plans to store finger print details from new biometric passports in a central data bank which will be accessible to police.

VVD, Labour and ChristenUnie MPs have now come out against the plan, the Volkskrant reports on Thursday. They feel the central register has too many privacy implications for citizens.
The plan has already been attacked by lawyers and privacy experts. Even the security service AIVD warned that the databank would be vulnerable to hackers and identity theft.
‘The Netherlands is leading the way in Europe when it comes to a central finger print database and as far as I am concerned, that is undesirable,’ said VVD MP Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert.
Home affairs minister Piet Hein Donner is waiting for a report on the issue from the scientific council for government policy before deciding what action to take, the paper says.
