A large majority of MPs is opposed to cabinet plans to cut aid ministry spending on healthcare, including aids prevention, by €71m.

MPs from the two ruling parties together with Labour and the Socialist Party on Wednesday called on the cabinet to reverse the cuts. They are now looking for alternative spending reductions to make up the shortfall.
During the debate, Labour MP Sjoera Dikkers pointed out that many people will no longer get medicine if the cuts go through because they depend on Dutch help. Some 180,000 people with hiv are currently helped by Dutch organisations.
Junior aid minister Ben Knapen said during the debate that many other international donors work in the area of aids and hiv prevention.
