Demos in student cities against plans to cut grants, raise fees

Several thousand students demonstrated in central Amsterdam on Friday against government plans to cut student funding from next year.

There were also demonstrations in Utrecht, Nijmegen and Wageningen, website nu.nl reported.
The government plans to increase fees for students who take too long to complete their degrees to €5,000 a year and to limit grants to three years.
Students currently get a combination of a small grant and student loan for four years.
